Fluidify the engineering work and synchronization via Lean Practices
CONTEXT
A partner of HPC project, working on the engineering calculations of metal structures.
A team of nearly 70 engineers working on design, create a challenge to synchronize the teams, and manage the technical and organizational interfaces.
Setec IPMC team applied VSM (Value Stream Mapping) approach to design process, and deployed OBEYA (visual management) practices to :
-
- Facilitate communication
- Enable understanding of project objectives
- Solve problems early
- Focus on customer value
- Streamline the implementation of the process
- Place the individuals at the heart of the system
APPROACH AND RESULTS
Application of the Value Stream Mapping approach
- Through 5 workshops
- Scope definition and understating the intentions & objectives
- Describe and map the high-level process
- Analyze the process and define « waste » activities
- Propose improvement plan and measure the « gain »
- Implement the priority improvements
Develop and target the right Visual Management routines (OBEYA)
- Assessment Project Governance, and map current rituals
- Define and target the right objectives, participants, and frequency for OBEYA for engineering teams
- Implement OBEYA for all teams including France and abroad teams
